Mount Pelion, the home of the mythological Centaurs, is regarded as one of the most picturesque regions in Greece, soaring to a height of 1624 meters. Pelion is where Greek tradition and modern life meet and where mythology and reality merge. Compared with other mountainous regions in Greece, Pelion is renowned for its lush vegetation and startling greenery. It is studded with quaint, traditional villages.

The pinacle of the mountain bisects Pelion into eastern and western slopes, the former reaches out to the Egean Sea while the latter ends at the Gulf of Pagasitikos.

Characteristic of the eastern portion is thick vegetagion and isolated beaches, steep river banks, gorges and abundance of rain. Western Pelion, on the other hand, is known for its gentle slopes full of olive trees, quiet beaches and lots of sunshine.
